Teresa's Twins

2 month twins picture

Hello - I'm Teresa and I gave birth to twin girls in January 1994. I had complications of premature labor from about 20 weeks.

My birth story is not spectacular, just one of a caring mother and father who had to alter our lives and the life of our older child for a few months to make every possible effort to get our two babies here as healthy as possible.

I went into premature labor at 20 weeks, and the doctors watched me closely for a couple of weeks. At 22 weeks, I was placed on complete bed rest at home. This was tough for me, as it would be for any woman..... but we established a routine to get through it.

At 28 weeks, I was dilating more, so was placed on complete bed rest IN THE HOSPITAL.... now, I just thought bed rest at home was tough.... you really cannot get up while in the hospital.

twins My husband stayed with me most of the time, and my mother-in-law came to our home to stay with and and take our older daughter to school and activities.

I was in the hospital over Christmas 1993....

The doctors and staff at the hospital were able to keep my labor at bay until 32 weeks.... my girls were born weighing 3 lb. 2 oz, and 3 lb 12 oz. There were not any complications other than low birth weight and learning to suck and swallow to take milk...

The girls spent 4 weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and came home on Valentine's Day 1994.
